We are pleased to announce the formation of another Robotics Team(s) this fall at CMS.  The program is coordinated by our coaches and partners in education, Ms. Maggie Walters and Ms. Dawna Kevicki, and allows a team of students to work together to build their own robot based on a predetermined theme.   This year’s theme will be World Class – “Learning Unleashed.”  The team will take part in periodic competition events via FIRST Lego League (http://www.firstlegoleague.org/) with other school teams around San Diego County.

Here are some essential points about the program:

·         Required attendance to an informational meeting on May 8, 2014
o   Location: CMS Granzer Hall
o   Time: 6:00-7:00 p.m.

·         We are planning for two CMS teams with approximately 10 students per team

·         The club is for students who will be in 6th and 7th grade for the 2014-2015 school year.  If 2014-2015, 8th grade students are interested in robotics, they should select the STEAM / Engineering as a class choice on their elective form for the 2014-1015 school year.  STEAM  / Engineering is an 8th grade elective class with robotics being a part of the curriculum in this year long class.

·         Team practices would generally take place after school.   Practices will continue through the competition period.  This period can last from September through December 2014 (more details to follow).  Saturday morning practices will be necessary just before the competitions themselves.  Because of the preparation involved prior to the competitions, regular attendance at practices is essential for all participants.  Team members are also expected to maintain acceptable academics and citizenship in their classrooms in order to participate in the program.

Parent attendance is mandatory for this meeting if your child is interested in participating in the CMS Robotics Team. Team members will be chosen via an application process.
