Brian Bent Memorial Aquatic Center

A mecca for swim, training and water polo competitions.

Brian Bent Memorial Aquatics Complex (BBMAC) launched a successful international marketing campaign in 2010 to position Coronado Island as a mecca for swim and water polo training and competition. Since that time hundreds of coaches and athletes from all over the world came to Coronado to enjoy this world-class facility, our famed warm weather, and the convenience of short-term facility rental.

BBMAC is an $8.5 million state-of-the art aquatic complex completed in 2007. The complex features a 50-meter, 7-foot depth Olympic-Class pool that accommodates any water polo course length and can be split into multiple courses for maximum versatility. For more information about the BBMAC, call Carrie Fisher-Fernan, BBMAC’s Aquatic Director at (619) 522-8900 x2821 or visit www.bbmac.org.

BBMAC memorializes one of Coronado’s favorite sons: Brian Bent.

Brian played numerous sports as a child, but it was in high school that he discovered his true talent: water polo. He progressed from a rookie freshman to a co-captain as a senior and eventually earned prep All-America honors, was named the league’s most valuable player and garnered 1994 CIF Player of the Year accolades as a senior. That season, he helped lead Coronado to the CIF title.  Brian went on to play water polo for the UCLA Bruins. In 1996, he had a tremendous freshman campaign, scoring 30 goals in 46 attempts and helping guide the Bruins to back-to-back NCAA Championships. Sadly, in 2006 Brian passed away in his sleep on April 2, 2006, in Taipei, Taiwan, from complications due to sleep apnea. Bent had been in Asia for one year teaching English to Taiwanese students as well as traveling and exploring foreign cultures. Later that year the school board, fundraisers and community members unanimously approved naming the building the “Brian Bent Memorial Aquatics Complex.
