District Strategic Planning Starts Well

January 12th was the annual meeting for CUSD’s Strategic Plan. Present were approximately 40 District, parent, and community shareholders, as well as the entire Governing Board. The willingness to participate of so many is evidence of the strong commitment of our Coronado community to our students. The questions, thoughts, and ideas of our participants are taken very seriously and impact future action steps as we strive to we meet our three Board Goals for Learning, Communication, and Support. All levels were represented, from preschool through high school, as well as parents and teachers on behalf of the different subgroups of our student population.
Students were also in attendance and spoke about their personal school experiences. A CHS student related about being a part of the Student Organized Learning Opportunities (SOLO) independent study program, and a CMS student spoke about the benefits of Haiku. Elementary students were represented by 5th grade teacher Crystal Garner who shared an example of how she uses Personalized Learning Plans in her class.
The community partners who participated were representatives of Coronado Schools Foundation, Coronado SAFE, Naval Base Coronado, and the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee, as well as most site parent teacher organizations. CUSD is grateful for their participation and support! The links below are to the agenda and all of the resources from the January 12, 2016 annual meeting:
The next steps in the strategic planning process are school site planning days and the revision of the key actions and related budgets for the 2016-17 Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). There will be more information to follow as to how the community can be a part of the LCAP process. Upcoming school sites planning days will occur on:
- Coronado High School on 2/2/16 beginning at 8:15 AM
- Silver Strand Elementary School on 2/9/16 beginning at 8:45 AM
- Village Elementary School on 2/11/16 beginning at 8:15 AM
Due to the transition in administration at Coronado Middle School, the CMS strategic plan will be updated internally by CMS staff, and the draft will be shared with the School Site Council for their approval. All site plans are approved by their School Site Councils and the CUSD Governing Board in the spring.
