Elementary Student Saturday SchoolMarch 1, 2014
In order to foster opportunities for improved academic performance students will have the opportunity to make up absences by attending Saturday School. Saturday School will serve to "clear" an absence from your child's record, offer an opportunity to make-up academic enrichment, and allow CUSD to reclaim Average Daily Attendance (ADA) funding for lost school days. This last element is a critical part of the CUSD's efficiency steps as adopted by the School Board last spring in response to the ongoing state budget crisis and its related goal of raising student attendance in the district by 1%, which would realize a savings of $175,000, and mitigate the need for future budget cuts.
If your child has one or more absences, he or she is eligible to attend.
- This Saturday School will take place from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on March 1st.
- Saturday School is held at Silver Strand Elementary and is open to students from both elementary sites.
Students are to report promptly at 8:00 a.m. to Strand Hall for Saturday School where attendance will be taken and they will be led to classrooms by certificated district elementary teachers to begin a variety of grade level appropriate, standards-based enrichment activities.
- Students may bring a snack, or one will be provided, for a short recess break that will take place midway through the session.
- Regular school day exit procedures are to be expected in respect to parents arranging for students to go home promptly at 12:00 p.m.
All parents are respectfully reminded that the state of California has compulsory school attendance guidelines as defind in Ed. Code 48205. We look forward to continuing to work together with parents to ensure that all students attend school regularly on time.
Enrollment forms are due in students' school offices by February 21st.
