DoDEA Grant Awards by School

This fall, Coronado Unified School District received a new award of 1.25 million dollars from the Department of Defense Education Activity program for a five year implementation entitled Project Arts for Learning! Project A4L continues to serve military students, the largest demographic subgroup in the district (approximately 40%), as well as all students in preschool-grade 12. 2016-17 is the planning year. Two overarching goals established by this new grant help close the achievement gap between CUSD’s military population and the total population via integration of all areas of visual and performing arts into curricula and instruction, by increasing teachers’ content knowledge of the arts through professional development. The goals include:

  • improving student achievement in English language arts for all elementary grades and some secondary departments through arts integration
  • improving student engagement and attendance
Project Arts for Learning is the fourth DoDEA grant that CUSD has received since 2009.

DoDEA Project M3: Math, Mindset, and Mastery (2015-2020)

Coronado Unified School District’s award of 1.25 million dollars from the Department of Defense Education Activity program is in its second  full year of implementation in the 2016-17 school year. The grant, entitled Project M3: Math, Mindset, and Mastery, continues to serve military students, the largest demographic subgroup in the district (approximately 40%), as well as all students in preschool-grade 12. Three overarching goals established by the M3 grant in helping close the achievement gap between CUSD’s military population and the total population via integration of technology into curricula and instruction:to increase teachers’ content knowledge of conceptually based mathematics principles and practices through professional development 
  • to increase teachers' content knowledge of conceptually based mathematics principles and practices through professional development 
  • close the achievement gap in mathematics by implementing data driven practices
  • small group instruction
  • online assessment and curricula

Project M3 continues the work of two previous DoDEA Grants that CUSD has received since 2009.
