Child Nutrition Services

Our Mission
Our Mission
At Coronado Unified School District, our Child Nutrition Services team is fully committed to going beyond basic nutrition standards. We believe that nourishing our students means more than just meeting guidelines—it’s about creating meals and experiences that they genuinely enjoy. We proudly follow the rigorous standards set at the federal and state level in addition to the Student Wellness policies outlined by our Governing Board, but we also know that true wellness starts with connection—between the classroom and the cafeteria, between nutrition and enjoyment. Healthy food only makes a difference if students actually want to eat it. That’s why we focus on crafting meals that are not only nutritious but also appealing. We’ve designed the Island Café to be a welcoming, vibrant space where students feel comfortable and excited to eat. It’s more than a cafeteria—it’s a place where good food and good vibes come together. Our goal is simple: to support our students’ health and happiness, one meal at a time.

Free Breakfast and Lunch Meals for All Enrolled Students for School Year 2025-2026
Beginning in school year 2022-2023, California became the first state to implement a statewide Universal Meals Program for school children. Education Code 49501.5 requires public school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools serving students in grades TK-12 to provide two meals free of charge (breakfast and lunch) during each school day to students requesting a meal, regardless of their free or reduced-price meal eligibility.
Although meals will be free for all, the state continues to require school districts to distribute and collect free/reduced meal applications. Free/reduced-price meal applications can be downloaded from the "Important Forms and Links" to the left or by accessing the application online by clicking HERE.
Free/reduced-price meal applications allow the district to collect essential data needed in order to qualify for additional school funding intended to support academic programs for your student. Additionally, free/reduced eligibility can qualify households for things such as discounted internet services, P-EBT benefits, discounted rates on your energy bill, and more. No applications will be necessary to receive the daily meals. For more information, click HERE.
