Response to Immigration
Commitment to a Safe and Welcoming Learning Environment
In the Coronado Unified School District, our primary goal is to provide a safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environment where every student is treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their immigration status.
We understand that national conversations about immigration may cause uncertainty. Please be assured that our top priority is the confidentiality, safety, and well-being of every member of our community.
Our District Policies
CUSD does not ask for or collect information regarding the citizenship or immigration status of students or their families. We do not assist with immigration enforcement on school grounds unless legally required.
These values are codified in our Board Policy and Administrative Regulation on Response to Immigration Enforcement.
Important Information for Our Community
To ensure the protection of our students, the District adheres to the following protocols:
- Protecting Information: Any staff member receiving a request for information regarding a student’s immigration status is instructed to uphold and protect the legal rights of that student and their family.
- On-Campus Inquiries: If an immigration officer approaches you on campus during school hours, please immediately direct them to the Principal or designated school personnel.
- Legal Protections: No student information will be disclosed to immigration authorities for enforcement purposes without a court order or judicial subpoena.
- Parental Consent: The District must receive consent from parents or guardians before officers may interview or search a student, unless a judicial warrant or subpoena legally restricts such disclosure.
- Document Transparency: Staff will provide parents/guardians with copies of any documents provided by an immigration officer, unless prohibited by a subpoena.
We Are Here to Support You
Our administrative staff is available to provide guidance and resources to any family with questions or concerns. We are committed to cultivating a place where everyone feels valued and supported.
